Welcome to another fun filled episode of the podcast.

Jeff Allen is not only a great friend and mentor (did I mention mentor yet??) he is one of those people who is just has that postive energy we need today.

Jeff is a Licensed Special Educator and Behavioral Interventionist with thousands of hours experience working one-on-one with children and their parents. He is also a public speaker, President Elect of the Thompson Valley Rotary, and an approved Job Coach for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation thru the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.

Before beginning his private practice, Jeff was Co-Chair of his Department and a member of the Crisis Prevention & Problem Solving Teams. Jeff is now the Founder of the Allen School of Self Mastery and a private practice Family Counselor, Coach and Mentor, specializing in boys & young men ages 5-35.

He guides families, boys, and young men step-by-step to greater connection, clarity of purpose, and true confidence within themselves so they have the best chance of being successful at home, in school, in their future career, and in their future personal relationships, regardless of the challenges they now face.

Ok, you will want to know that you are not loosing it if you hear birds during this episode. We sat down at Jeff's house over looking the mountains of Colorado on his back deck.

  • What does Jeff mean that women have scuba tanks and men just have a mask?
  • We talk about my feeling that men are affraid to hug.
  • Jeff some what had his "AH HA" moment of his "WHY" moment during one of the times he was in the principal's off because of something his son had done.

This was a very honest conversation and when I say honest, well, you will hear two guys just talking.

This hit me very hard after reading the passing of Chester Bennington who was the lead singer for one of my favorite bands Linkin Park.

One of my memories I am sharing here on the podcast is how Connor became a fan of the group.

My thoughts and prayers to the family of Chester.

On this episode we take a trip down book lane. The topic is taking road trips with your kids.

You do not always need to do a cross country trip. A road trip could be across town but the point is to have quality time together.

To get more tips you can head over to BlendingTheFamily.com and buy your copy of the book "25 Tips For Divorced Dads" because it is set up like a workbook where you can create your own tips.

My first book "25 Tips for Divorced Dads" is what this episode is about. Telling your kids that you love them is such a vital need and as parents we need to tell them and show what love means.

Tip number 4 from the book is "Tell them EVERYDAY that you LOVE them. For example even if I do not see my son Connor I make it a routine to give him a call. If he is not answering his phone then I leave a message and telling him "I LOVE YOU."

You can head over to blendingthefamily.com and get not only my book but the kids coloring book too "Ten Tips On How To Survive Your Parents Divorce."

The authors of the book “Daily Bread for the Starving Stepmom” Laurabeth Hoisington and Melanie Anthony join me on the podcast to talk about their ministry The Starving Stepmom. These two ladies created a devotional book that was truly inspired by a “Higher Power.”

  • Pain of the biological parent when having to pick between their kids and their marriage.
  • The question comes up again “should the kids come first” when dating with kids?
  • The benefits of premarital counseling.
  • Do churches have a “blind eye” in the world of blended families?
  • The article we mentioned from the Huffington Post.
  • How can women help men with communication?
  • Who is the “Starving Stepmom.”
  • Tweet them @starvingstepmom

This episode was a bit personal because of the struggles trying to find my own faith. Honestly the message that Melanie and Laurabeth bring is of great value to any family.  For example I find myself doing more Bible reading to just to look for more of a perspective as my life has its down days. Currently I am reading the Book of Proverbs. Lately there are things that I am doing where the foundation is very much faith based. My wife Ann and I are going through the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University; one of the speakers for the course is a New York Times Bestselling Author Jon Acuff. One of Jon’s books is titled “Start” and this is one of the books that I am reading.

Have fun listing to this episode with the Starving Step Mom’s.

This episode will talk about where we had made changes to our banking.

According to Dave Ramsey 52 percent of divorces are cased by money issues. You need to have those hard talks. You should also help your kids out by getting them on the right path.

My wife Ann and I are attending through our local church Financial Peace University that was created by Dave Ramsey. Many of the lessons we are learning brings back of how in our marriage that we still need help navigating through the world of money.

I want to present to you one of our early podcast episodes where we do talk honestly about our struggles and honestly we still do but I feel that we now have a better plan with the course.

Neither Ann and I are affiliated with Dave Ramsey but this could save your marriage, as well as mine.

This has been a week from HELL when it comes my finances. The lawnmower needed work and then the hard drive on my computer crashed.

While these life “OH CRAP” moments sucked these were lessons involved at the same time.

‘How to profit from your divorce’ – Paul Ross After nearly 5 years of my own acrimonious divorce, 6 court appearances, 7 lawyers, threat of bankruptcy and even a penal notice; ending up being totally exasperated and thinking there had to be another and better way to complete a divorce, draw a line and move on with life.

Combining my own divorce experience and latest research; moved me to write my first book ‘How to profit from your divorce’.

The book is written by the client for the client; a step by step 10 point plan, which shares the importance of taking control of your divorce, as a father and devoted parent putting family and children unconditionally first, having a successful divorce strategy and rebuilding your life and wealth after divorce; all designed to help the millions of couples and families affected by family break-up.

The simple 10 point plan includes the important things such as paying for your divorce without going into debt, researching and planning your divorce, selecting your family attorney, negotiating a quality settlement.

Setting realistic divorce objectives and having a divorce strategy at the start of a break-up could be the difference between $15,000 and $100,000 worth of legal fees. Further, a strategy helps you navigate your way to a quality financial settlement and a fulfilling life beyond.

It was William Shakespeare who said: “Legacy is so rich as honesty”

Part of the proceeds from my book will be donated to Alzheimer’s research. For further information, please feel free to visit www.paul-ross.com

In 2006 David took the first step in a long and painful journey back from the abyss of addiction and self-destruction. He promised his dying father that he would get clean. And he did. But as he cleaned his body and soul he began to confront the sexual abuse that his addiction had for so long obscured. Abuse perpetrated by a church youth minister that started when David was just 12 years old.

Over three years of abuse destroyed the foundation of love and faith that had been built by his family. For 25 years David kept the abuse secret, and lost himself in a fog of drugs and alcohol. He was by turns destitute, at times incarcerated.

The promise to his dying father was the catalyst. And the bedrock of his mother’s love and devotion was the foundation on which David rebuilt his life. Therapy, 12-step meetings, and soul-deep determination were the bricks and mortar.

Today, David and his wife Linda help fellow survivors through Together We Heal, a non-profit they created that provides cost-free guidance and support.

David travels across the country speaking and teaching at schools, civic groups, churches, children’s advocacy centers or in a house full of families. He helps educate them on how to talk with their kids about sexual abuse and exposes sexual predators’ tactics and methods.

Most recently David joined forces with GRACE (Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment) to be one of their Certification Specialist for its Child Safeguarding Certification Program. It's been David's desire, since he first came forward about being sexually abused, to help the Church from within; to better protect its children and properly respond to those already harmed.
