AMY LYLE IS BACK!!

“Bio- maybe something like- after being in corporate America for 20 years our next guest went into shock when she got remarried and was trying to blend 2 households, 4 kids, 2 dogs and several guinea pigs. Luckily, she saw the humor in it all and wrote about even the most mortifying moments of being a stepmom- called The Book Of Failures.  The book opens with "I've been married for twenty years, not to the same people, but twenty years nonetheless." Amy is now a regular on Atlanta's popular morning show Atlanta and Company and a frequent guest on radio programs, does stand-up comedy and always incorporates her real-life struggles of marriage and children into her act.  Or something like that...”

When I was thinking about the endo of the year podcast I really thought of Amy. The idea of doing a special end of the year episode had “failure” written all over it.

When I think of failing and I had many of those this year we needed an expert.

Obviously there was a lot of discussion about #failures but we came up with5 tips to help you move forward and away from failure:

  1. Get a mentor
  2. Create a life map
  3. Hearing and saying the word “NO”.
  4. Small Steps
  5. Gratitude

We also talk about Amy’s new book “We’re All A Mess, It’s OK. These are real stories of other people’s failures and how they learned from those events.

We're All A Mess, It's OK http://ow.ly/h4ck30mABNK

I really hope you enjoy Frank's story. We just recently met and Frank was very kind in trusting me with his personal story.

Frank's back story was simple. He owned a small car dealership:then 2008 wiped him out.

At one point his wife asked for a divorce.

How would of handled one day having it all and then the "storm troopers" showed up.

Please let me know your thoughts.

I had to attend a mandatory parenting meeting recently.

The facilitator was from the Safe Sport organization. Safe Sport is about making our youth sports athletes safe from sexual predators’.

The message during the meeting was why men were evil (my word not hers).

Yes, I am aware that the majority of sick in the head predators are men. Guess what? There are GREAT men who are NOT sexual predators.

Here is my take.

Louie and Duke

Hello and it is good to be back from taking a bit of a break.

Before I get into the show, the picture is of Duke who is the lab and Louie who is, well full of energy.

Duke is about 15 years old and is having issues but at times still thinks he is a puppy.

After the 100th episode I just needed a break.

I really did miss you and doing the show.

This episode is part one of two. I recorded these back in August as I started a new job.

One of our past guest MR. Johnny Nomad suggested for me to do shows from the road and that is what is going to be going on.

Johnny has a new book out and here is the link:

Purpose

Please get your Ebook of his book.

Thats about it. I will let the podcast do the talking for me.

Thank you for sticking by me from the break.

*** Warning This Episode Uses Adult Language***

My first day at the “dreaded day job” I met this guy named Scott. Turns out that he and I would be working in the same department and became fast friends.

Scott I can say you are a friend?

One morning Scott and I had to go to another office to pick up one of our work laptops. While having casual conversation we both realized our love for the movie “The Blues Brothers” and of course we each had to top each other with knowing lines from the movie.

He was my go to person at work because we just clicked. It was a bromance made in well, dreaded day job heaven.

Please help me push him to write his book that he has been working on for EVER.

https://www.facebook.com/thekingofsnakes

This episode is a bit long but we do talk about subjects that have been on this podcast before:

  • Blended Families
  • Relationships
  • Work issues
  • Parents and our relationship with them
  • Writing
  • Faith

Scott is just a great human being and it was so much fun having someone sitting across from me here in the home office VS a Skype video. He reminds me a lot of my dad in the sense of being a person who encourages you to do your best. That is why we need to get him to write his book.

To those of you reading this from the day job, I do miss seeing you. Thank you for all of your support and if you are offended of anything I say F YOU :)

This was so much fun and I hope you the listener get a sense of the fun it was just talking.

**Warning** There was "adult" words used on this episode.

This was a very different episode for me. My guest has been a friend for close to 10 years. Brett “Zach” Zachman is more than just a friend he truly is one of my brothers. At one point in my life for example: I had no health insurance and with Zach’s help that changed for the better.

I really cannot do an introduction to fit such a great human. This was what he sent me as for his bio and again it does not really do justice other than he does have “two wonderful sons.”

“Brett Zachman is single, divorced father of two wonderful teenage sons. By day, he is a Senior Vice President with Five Rings Financial. By night, he is the Founder of BeMen.”

This was a very honest conversation and we talk about topics that are in the news that I never thought I would speak on.

Please check out the BeMen website and think about asking Zach to help you create a BeMen chapter in your town.

What another fun time with a great guest. Satya Beneventi is a parenting coach but you will hear some of the amazing things she is getting ready to launch.

Plus you get to understand more of where the name Satya comes from.

One of my mentors Steven Petersen interviewed Satya and after listening to the two of them I wanted to have her on my podcast.

You will learn a lot from her on this episode even if you are not a parent. We do talk about how to handle those moments when kids act up.

Three words: Fight, flight Freeze

The question I ask many of our guest "if the kids do not get along while you are dating, do you keep dating? Satya stumped me on this.

A little more about her:

o Satya is a Certified Parent Coach and Founder of Turning Point Parenting. She is deeply passionate about her work and her enthusiasm and experience working with people for over 25 years has allowed her the keen insight in creating a safe environment for parents to share all of the rewarding and challenges that come with parenting.

o Satya has a degree in Business Management with a major in Organizational Behavior.

o She was featured in the book, “Magnetic Service” by customer service guru, Dr. Chip R. Bell.

  • Jason talks about having his dad (hint to my dad) as a guest on the Dudes to Dad podcast.

I had a coaching client call this moring. We will call the client "Bob" and he is in a situation that he has never gone through. He has been out of a "job" for the past 10 months.

Bob is almost 60 and he just wants to find a job. Have you as a man (sorry ladies I am not trying to exclude you here) felt that your job and pay check define you? That is not true at all.

I told Bob what a one of my mentors Tony, told me once. "You can be fired from your job. However you can never be fired from your work."

Bob agreed with me that he needs to get that old mind set out of his thoughts.

On this episode I bring up that I was coming from a job interview to hence the tie as the picture.

Have you ever read the book "Think and Grow Rich"? I would like to hear your thoughts about the book.

My guest is Amy Lyle and here is a little bit from her bio.

"maybe something like- after being in corporate America for 20 years our next guest went into shock when she got remarried and was trying to blend 2 households, 4 kids, 2 dogs and several guinea pigs. Luckily, she saw the humor in it all and wrote about even the most mortifying moments of being a stepmom- called The Book Of Failures.  The book opens with "I've been married for twenty years, not to the same people, but twenty years nonetheless." Amy is now a regular on Atlanta's popular morning show Atlanta and Company and a frequent guest on radio programs, does stand up comedy and always incorporates her real-life struggles of marriage and children into her act.  Or something like that..."

When Amy and I sat down, well I am guessing she was sitting since we were virtual and not face to face. My failure to check her sound level ended up as a “take 2.” She was super kind to actually trust me and come back on (a few hours later).

Obviously there was a lot of discussion about #failures but we did talk about how we “humans” learn from our mistakes also to teach our kids as parents that it is a good thing to make mistakes.

Her book "The Book Of Failures" has personal stories talking about how she has bounced back even for example falling down a flight of stairs while "not chipping" her tooth.

One of the stories Amy and I talk about is how Billionaire Sara Blakely’s dad would ask her and her brother if they “failed” anything that week. Turns out both Amy and I have a crush on Sara.

Other topics we cover:

  • Mentors
  • Blended Family Failures
  • Her movie that is in "development"
  • Is her husband funny?
  • How does she write her comedy?
  • Friday Fails (you will find those on her Facebook page)

Very ironic that we were talking about failing and I did just that with my technical issue. However Amy was AWESOME to come back on.

Also on her Facebook she is taking ideas from you for her next book. Who knows but your funny failure could get you into Amy's second book.

The back story of this episode is that Elisabeth and I had connected through LinkedIn. She set up a Zoom video call and we had great conversation. Then I felt extremely bummed that we did not record the conversation.

Elisabeth really brought her “A” game for this podcast episode and we talked about:

  • Have weekly family meetings
  • Name the difference households by the streets instead of your “mom’s house or dad’s house.” I really thought this was a great tip.
  • WORD OF THE DAY
  • How to handle disciplining bonus kids and is it working for you?

While recording a new episode a thought popped into my head and I had to share it with you.

This episode is sponsored by the book “Ten Tips On How To Survive Your Parent’s Divorce.” Do you know of a child who is to young for them to express themselves? This coloring book can possibly help them. This book was actually written by two kid authors: Becca and Connor. Their own expense of divorce can help other kids because again this book was written by kids.

You can purchase the book at BlendingTheFamily.com or even on Amazon.

I was havinga great conversation with Elisabeth Stitt who is a parenting coach and a future guest on the podcast. She brought up a thought or two and I turned this weeks #ParentingTipTuesday into a episode.

Having the tough talks is part of the theme along with weaving the Parenting Tip. Elisabeth talks a lot about the importance of having family meetings. I agree and having those meeting even before you become a blended family.

I hope you enjoy this show.

I am so psyched for this episode and after you listen or watch (wink, wink) I am going to be part of having breakfast with my guest. Well virtually that is.

Glenn P Brooks Jr is someone I stumbled upon on Instagram and during this episode not only will you get to watch this episode on the Blending The Family YouTube channel but Glenn was doing a Live Instagram Video at the same time.

My guest is a 7 time author, speaker and coach. He and his wife Sheri are all about serving others. Glenn was even very kind after we had stopped recording to talk with me about some business ideas.

Something that we talked about was that there was an article from the website Fatherly and it was stating the obvious that if a child is going to be successful then dad’s need to be involved.

Glenn was very profound when he compared “Blending VS Juicing” and this was such a beautiful statement. You should write it down and post it in several places to read each and every day.

One more day of the day job...

Here we go. The last day of the dreaded day job. Now what??

It is time to take my life into my own hands but putting faith in GOD. Would that be multi-tasking?

My first step to create income is going to the people and selling the kids coloring book.

I also need to mention that if you are divorced or will be: make sure you look at your parenting agreement. You will hear the lesson I just learned. I am pissed at myself.

Thank you for supporting the podcast it means so much to me.

Will this be the last episode of "driving while podcasting"?  Not sure.

Stay tuned...

Sometimes we need a PUSH right before taking that leap of Faith.

I want to start off with you that what about you are going to listen to is a very personal episode. We all have some type of "faith" and I am coming into my own.

Part of who I am is taking stupid risks and writing and podcasting are just a couple.

There is also quiting a job and just putting faith that it is all going to workout.

I was meeting up with a friend who said that when we take our leap of faith that it would be nice to get a simple push.

Here is my push for you.

Crowd Sourcing is not begging it's a mindset I need to get over and that means I am asking for your help.

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

There is going to be a book launch in the month of April. I am not going to sugar coat this at all. I need your help.

One of my favorite TED Talks is of Amanda Palmer who taught many of us that asking does not mean begging. Asking is not a sign of weakness. Asking can be very uplifiting.

For this book "My Dad's Advice At 5:04 AM" is going to launched on a book publishing crowd sourcing sight called:

publishizer.com

I am going to be asking for your help to raise money to get this book finally published. The money (6-7 Thousand dollars) will be going to a campaign where the money will be used to help get the book edited.

Putting many hours into this book means that I do not want to skimp on this process.

Once the project is launched I will have "bonuses" to say thank you for helping me with my vision. This might include being a guest on the podcast or even putting your name in the book as another way of saying thank you.

Please either check on the Facebook page, Instagram or on the blog to get more information. I am thinking that the launch will be April 15 (kind of funny).

I have not only an editor but there is going to be so much more to just the book but again I need your help to achieve this 2018 goal.

You Are A Great Dad!!

I was having a conversation with my mom and she reminded me that I am a great dad.  My thought process was that I was not a great dad because, well I do not know if I am. I should ask my kids.

It would be nice as men that we would say to another man that they are a great dad or women telling a another dad that are a great dad.

Please spread the message to dads all over the world.

PLEASE!!
