"It's not painful enough...for men the parenting role isn't painful enough to..."

This episode is sponsored by the book “Ten Tips On How To Survive Your Parent’s Divorce.” Do you know of a child who is too young for them to express themselves? This coloring book can possibly help them. This book was actually written by two kid authors: Becca and Connor. Their own expense of divorce can help other kids because again this book was written by kids.

You can purchase the book at BlendingTheFamily.com or even on Amazon.

Jason Kreidman is the founder of Dad University, an educational company designed to help
fathers in navigating parenting, enhancing their relationships, and boosting their personal
lives. Jason reaches dads across the world through his videos on his Dad University YouTube Channel.

Stuff from the show:

  • Did you know the average cost of raising a child until they are 17? Way too much.
  • What are we men doing right?
  • Jason talks about having his dad (hint to my dad) as a guest on the Dudes to Dad podcast.
  • Are dad's still living in the 1950's?

Executive producer and host of the podcast Blending The Family where you can find on Libsyn, Stitcher Radio, ITunes, IHeart Radio and Spotify. Tommy is a TEDx speaker.

Has also spoken at Ignite Fort Collins and Keynote Speaker at Everything Dad Convention.

The author of the books "25 Tips For Divorced Dads.” “Why not you, Why Not Me” and His new book “My Dad’s Advice At 5:04 AM” is coming out in the Fall of 2018. Tommy enjoys a good red blend while writing or hiding from the family.

I had a coaching client call this moring. We will call the client "Bob" and he is in a situation that he has never gone through. He has been out of a "job" for the past 10 months.

Bob is almost 60 and he just wants to find a job. Have you as a man (sorry ladies I am not trying to exclude you here) felt that your job and pay check define you? That is not true at all.

I told Bob what a one of my mentors Tony, told me once. "You can be fired from your job. However you can never be fired from your work."

Bob agreed with me that he needs to get that old mind set out of his thoughts.

On this episode I bring up that I was coming from a job interview to hence the tie as the picture.

Have you ever read the book "Think and Grow Rich"? I would like to hear your thoughts about the book.

On this episode I bust out the mic talking to you as I head to Connor's baseball game.

Not sure what I am going to do about the book. What would you do?

My guest is Amy Lyle and here is a little bit from her bio.

"maybe something like- after being in corporate America for 20 years our next guest went into shock when she got remarried and was trying to blend 2 households, 4 kids, 2 dogs and several guinea pigs. Luckily, she saw the humor in it all and wrote about even the most mortifying moments of being a stepmom- called The Book Of Failures.  The book opens with "I've been married for twenty years, not to the same people, but twenty years nonetheless." Amy is now a regular on Atlanta's popular morning show Atlanta and Company and a frequent guest on radio programs, does stand up comedy and always incorporates her real-life struggles of marriage and children into her act.  Or something like that..."

When Amy and I sat down, well I am guessing she was sitting since we were virtual and not face to face. My failure to check her sound level ended up as a “take 2.” She was super kind to actually trust me and come back on (a few hours later).

Obviously there was a lot of discussion about #failures but we did talk about how we “humans” learn from our mistakes also to teach our kids as parents that it is a good thing to make mistakes.

Her book "The Book Of Failures" has personal stories talking about how she has bounced back even for example falling down a flight of stairs while "not chipping" her tooth.

One of the stories Amy and I talk about is how Billionaire Sara Blakely’s dad would ask her and her brother if they “failed” anything that week. Turns out both Amy and I have a crush on Sara.

Other topics we cover:

  • Mentors
  • Blended Family Failures
  • Her movie that is in "development"
  • Is her husband funny?
  • How does she write her comedy?
  • Friday Fails (you will find those on her Facebook page)

Very ironic that we were talking about failing and I did just that with my technical issue. However Amy was AWESOME to come back on.

Also on her Facebook she is taking ideas from you for her next book. Who knows but your funny failure could get you into Amy's second book.

"The relationship is more important then the problem."

Author of Parenting as a Second Language (pub. Goalkeeper Media) https://www.amazon.com/Parenting-Second-Language-Navigating-Tribulations/dp/1523738243 and award winning parent educator Elisabeth Stitt founded Joyful Parenting Coaching in 2014 to give parents the skills they need to be confident and joyous.

Over the course of her 25-year teaching career in the Redwood City School District, Elisabeth saw how parents were becoming increasingly isolated and were coming to parenting with little or no actual hands on experience with kids.     Parents used to turn to family and neighbors for models in how to parent: Today they have to seek out information and support from professionals.

Through her weekly newsletter, in-person workshops, one-on-one coaching and online webinars and tele summits, Elisabeth helps parents establish harmonious households so they can have the warm, loving, effective relationships with their kids that they deserve.  Sign up for Elisabeth’s free newsletter at www.elisabethstitt.com and find her on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/joyfulparentingcoaching/

The back story of this episode is that Elisabeth and I had connected through LinkedIn. She set up a Zoom video call and we had great conversation. Then I felt extremely bummed that we did not record the conversation.

Elisabeth really brought her “A” game for this podcast episode and we talked about:

  • Have weekly family meetings
  • Name the difference households by the streets instead of your “mom’s house or dad’s house.” I really thought this was a great tip.
  • WORD OF THE DAY
  • How to handle disciplining bonus kids and is it working for you?
  • My TEDX Talk

While recording a new episode a thought popped into my head and I had to share it with you.

I was havinga great conversation with Elisabeth Stitt who is a parenting coach and a future guest on the podcast. She brought up a thought or two and I turned this weeks #ParentingTipTuesday into a episode.

Having the tough talks is part of the theme along with weaving the Parenting Tip. Elisabeth talks a lot about the importance of having family meetings. I agree and having those meeting even before you become a blended family.

I hope you enjoy this show.

I am so psyched for this episode and after you listen or watch (wink, wink) I am going to be part of having breakfast with my guest. Well virtually that is.

Glenn P Brooks Jr is someone I stumbled upon on Instagram and during this episode not only will you get to watch this episode on the Blending The Family YouTube channel but Glenn was doing a Live Instagram Video at the same time.

My guest is a 7 time author, speaker and coach. He and his wife Sheri are all about serving others. Glenn was even very kind after we had stopped recording to talk with me about some business ideas.

Something that we talked about was that there was an article from the website Fatherly and it was stating the obvious that if a child is going to be successful then dad’s need to be involved.

Glenn was very profound when he compared “Blending VS Juicing” and this was such a beautiful statement. You should write it down and post it in several places to read each and every day.
