Before we start, I need your help.
Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. I am lucky to be alive. Why? I have attempted to take my life several times.
I wanted to share three ideas to help you or loved ones who struggle with the feelings of depression.
Today I came across this link that had some great information:
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline – If you feel you or someone you know may need emotional support, please visit the Lifeline’s website at suicidepreventionlifeline.org for helpful resources or call 1-800-273-TALK (8255). The Lifeline is free, confidential, and available to everyone in the U.S. You do not have to be suicidal to call the Lifeline.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness Warmline – Call or text 775-241-4212. The NAMI Warmline is a stigma-free, non-crisis, phone service you can call or text to speak one-on-one with a NAMI Western Nevada CARES (Community Assistance for Recovery through Education and Support) operator. The Warmline is staffed by trained peers in recovery, who provide support to peers by telephone. The Warmline provides confidential support when we want to talk to someone. The Warmline gives you a peer’s perspective on how to find support in the community by phone, text, or video. Knowing someone cares can motivate us to carry on in recovery when there is anxiety.
My hope is this podcast can help others along with this information above.

Build A Gingerbread House
Before we start, I need your help.
Today I want to talk to you about spending quality time with your kids. Time is NOT about how much money you can spend on the kids. It is all about being present and in the moment.

TELL YOUR KIDS YOU LOVE THEM EACH DAY
Before we start, I need your help.
In this episode, I want to give you the most important tip from my book "25 Tips For Divorced Dads."
I feel that as parents forget to just tell our kids that we love them. The world can seem moving fast and before you know it, poof, the kids are out of the house.
For me personally, I have struggled with having regrets when it comes to my son Connor. I know it is not too late but my thought is that as he was growing up I was not a good enough father to him.
More on that in a blog post.
I do try letting him know that I love him even though I do not see him on a regular basis.
Tell your kids you love them. Even in front of their friends.
I will admit that for my oldest bonus daughter Betsy, it is not easy to say. I think that will be a follow up podcast.
My other bonus daughter Becca, we have a pretty cool relationship and saying I love you to each other is very natural.
Bottom line, just say it.

Chris Williams message needs to be heard again. Why can't the violence stop? Why does each day have another Black and Brown male or female killed only because of their skin color?
Please share this episode to others who need to hear this. My hope is that next time Chris comes on we can talk sports, beers, and family.
Thank you for support this podcast,
Tommy
Tip number three is to get a webcam.
Before we start, I need your help.
Welcome to episode number 168 and it is a bit of a blast from the past. When I first wrote this book "25 Tips for Divorced Dads" it was at a time when having a webcam was not too common.
I was attending a Toastmasters meeting when one of the members asked to talk after the meeting. He knew how I was coaching other dads after divorce. He wanted ideas on how to stay connected with his kids since they lived a couple of states over. I told him to get a webcam for both the kids and himself.
This was back in 2009. He liked that idea but he wanted to make sure his former spouse would agree to let the kids use the camera.
When it comes to co-parenting, egos need to be pushed out and to only think about the kid's needs first.
Here we are in 2020 where the word of the year is "ZOOM." Video technology has changed and maybe for divorced parts it has changed for the better. You can Facetime your kids or send a video message right off your phone. Staying connected with your kids is better now with tech.
Is there a topic you want me to cover in future podcasts?

TIP NUMBER TWO: SEND YOUR KIDS POSTCARDS OR LETTERS...
Before we start, I need your help.
I have been challenged to add more content to my business coach. You can go to YouTube and see on the Blending The Family channel this episode.
This episode I will talk about a simple idea of sending your kids either a postcard or letter to help stay connected.
Years ago I needed to travel on Sundays to New York's Laguardia Airport. Once I was off the plane I would stop at the gift shop to buy 5 postcards. Each day I would do my best to print neat enough for my son Connor to read once he would receive them at his moms' house.
This summer Connor worked three jobs and we only saw him a couple of times. I ended up typing a letter to him. I know deep down he really appreciated the gesture.
This is my tip for you on this podcast episode. Write to your kids.

TALK TO YOUR KIDS
Before we start, I need your help.
This episode marks a significant change. I have moved to a downstairs into one of our spare bedrooms. My wife Ann and I have been sharing one home office, and as of typing these words, we have our own home offices!
With that being said, let's move on.
This episode comes right from my first book, "25 Tips for Divorced Dads: How to create special memories and grow your bonds with your kids." I am going to go through each tip from the book and add more commentary, and I hope it brings value to you and your family.
Starting with this episode, I will also add video, so please subscribe to Youtube the Blending The Family channel.
How can you stay connected to your kids when you do not see them regularly? Yes, there is calling. Yes, there is texting. What about writing (or typing) a letter to them?
I have horrible handwriting. This past summer, my son Connor was working three jobs, and seeing him was not as frequent.
My idea was to write him a letter. I know a text would be quicker. When you write a letter, it has far more meaning to it.
Please subscribe to all of the social media, and I hope this episode was beneficial to you and your family.
